The pall over the market hasn't broken yet, but the seasonal drought in insider filings has. With insider trading windows now reopened following first-quarter earnings releases, the rate of filings has picked up quite a bit. In the past two weeks, the combined number of companies with insiders filing open-market trades has doubled from what we saw in April. And the buying rate (versus selling) has been picking up: This past week, there were 332 firms that had insiders file open-market purchases with the SEC compared with 260 firms in the week before. As insiders commit money to the continuing market weakness, our bullish stance feels more comfortable despite the recent red ink. We still believe that this correction is closer to ending than building steam, and this week's insider activity provided us with a lot of interesting companies to further research. We're exercising patience now as we feel there's still little hurry to buy.
